It seems obvious right? You should keep fit but why? Well keep on reading and you will have an idea why.
Life can be stressful at times. When you combine these with poor eating habits, these can result in a state of poor health.
Stress on its own can lead to psychological, social, and medical problems. Up to 80 per cent of all illnesses are stress-induced. Stress-induced illnesses include heart disease, prostate and breast cancer, depression, diabetes, arthritis, and obesity.
BENEFITS OF DOING FITNESS
Stress releases hormones in the body which includes; catecholamine hormones, epinephrine, and norepinephrine which increases the blood pressure and heart rate, Cortisol which affects a lot of metabolic processes in the body and result in their inefficiency. This is not good for our body.
When you’re fit you have a low-stress level which means fewer hormones like catecholamines and cortisol are produced in your body. This is good for your health.
It helps prevent heart diseases
Exercise increases the oxygen demand of the heart and strengthens your heart muscle as you require it to pump the blood around your body faster. This results in the heart being in a good shape and working properly.
It improves your mood
Exercise increases the amount of dopamine and endorphins your brain produce. These are ‘feel good’ hormones that make you happy.
It Improves your IQ
People who are physically fit are more likely to be mentally healthy. Exercise increases the oxygen demand of the brain. This means your brain works better when you’re fit.
A study found out that young adults who exercise get higher IQ scores.
Less money spent on healthcare
Being fit and healthy means you aren’t getting sick often which means less visit to the doctor and less money spent on drugs.
It helps you look better
Exercise results generally in improved health resulting in healthier skin, better hair and fewer wrinkles and bags under your eyes meaning you look better. At the same time, it results in a lower body fat percentage and more lean muscle which brings out all your best features and gives you a great physique.
It helps you sleep better
Exercising during the day will help you sleep better at night. This is because you will be less stressed, have more blood and oxygen pumping around your body and be healthier. This has a lot of benefits by itself.
So as you can see there is no alternative to being fit. Even though this can seem daunting, it is achievable and sustainable.
A lot of people think about fitness in the wrong way. They think you need to go to a gym, get a gym membership, get a trainer in order to be fit. This is not necessarily true. If you can afford this, have a lot of free time and you’re patient enough, then this might work for you but for most people, this is not so. Getting a gym membership doesn’t mean you will go to the gym and even if you go it doesn’t mean you will be fit.
In our next series of articles, we are going to teach you simple exercises, habits and ways to help you to be fit and healthy. Remember, health is wealth.
